Verde Brasil
The company Verde Brasil Sustentabilidade e Negócios Imobiliários S.A. is a privately held corporation, which was created with the aim of acquiring areas in the Amazon biome to promote the preservation of the native forest. It currently concentrates its efforts in the State of Acre and in the south of Amazonas. It is headquartered in the city of Rio Branco/AC and has an ongoing carbon credit project called REDD+ Tarauacá.

Mission
Verde Brasil's mission is to eliminate the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest in the regions where it operates, as well as to promote the awareness of local communities about the importance of preserving the standing forest and its countless riches to be explored in a sustainable manner.

Carbon Credit
Carbon credit is a concept that emerged in 1997, within the Kyoto Protocol, it means not emitting 1 ton of greenhouse gas (GHG) into the atmosphere, it works as an economic incentive for companies to adopt clean energy. Companies that prevent, for example, the emission of 1 ton of CO2 (carbon dioxide) generate this credit and can sell it to other institutions and countries that exceed the emission volume of this gas into the atmosphere.
Anyone who promotes the reduction of polluting gas emissions is entitled to carbon credit certification and can sell them to companies and countries that have goals to meet.
PROJECT REDD+ TARAUACÁ
It is the carbon credit project being developed by Verde Brasil in the municipality of Tarauacá/AC. The Seringais Santa Cecília and Tamandaré are the precursor areas of this project, both bathed by the Tarauacá River, which, together, total an area of 34,740 hectares of Amazon forest and also have riverside communities that live on the banks of the mentioned river.
Verde Brasil's purpose is to group other areas in this project, aiming to make it a national reference, both in the preservation of virgin forest, and in raising awareness of local communities.
And what is REDD+?
REDD+ means Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD), plus the conservation and increase of forest carbon stocks and the sustainable management of forests (REDD+)
REDD+ is an incentive developed under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to financially reward developing countries for their results in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, considering the role conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (+).
REDD+ projects work with communities to restructure local economies towards sustainable land use and forest conservation. The sale of the resulting Verified Emissions Reductions helps fund sustainable low-carbon development activities. REDD+ projects are independently validated and verified to ensure that emission reductions and community and environmental benefits are transparent and accountable.
